English
RVMS Advanced English
Advanced English is a class that begins the process for students to take honors and AP classes at the high-school level.
Advanced English students:
-
have considerably higher reading and writing expectations than academic level classes.
-
are expected to work at a faster pace than academic students, with more extensive homework expectations.
-
are expected to produce in-depth work, demonstrating strong critical thinking skills.
-
will have assignments that largely focus on analysis, not narrative or creative writing skills.
-
are expected to work at a level that is one full year above their grade level. (For example, 7th grade students will be working at 8th grade standard level, and 8th graders will be working at the 9th grade standard level).
-
will have limited support in terms of scaffolding, frameworking etc…
-
will not be able to turn in late work without prior discussion with the teacher; any work turned in late will have a negative impact on their grade.
-
are expected to show intrinsic motivation and exceptional organizational skills.
-
should have scores that exceed standards on the CAASPP test.
-
will not have the opportunity to switch to an academic level class until the next semester.
